Bower Collective

Bower Collective is a new retail brand for environmentally aware consumers who see sustainability as a lifestyle, not an ideology.

I helped Bower develop their proposition and shape their story for investment. In parallel, I created their visual identity, based on direct insight from their target audience. As consultant chief design officer, I continue to look after the entire brand experience, from digital through to packaging and product.

As a startup, Bower have tight budgets. We collaborated closely to quickly workshop, prototype and test design and interaction ideas, and find routes that resonated with a luxury-focused audience.

Sønr’s differentiators are its hyper-personalisation, rich data, and unique (for the insurance industry) look and tone of voice.

The right execution was a balance between desirability and feasibility. Bower's store is based on a customised Shopify theme, so creating the right impression within rigid technical boundaries was a key challenge.

We got there through a mix of beautiful commissioned photography, elegant type, and custom illustrations.

Although Bower's a proudly digital-first brand, it works hard across a range of physical applications too. I developed a flexible system that allows us to create consistent, brand-appropriate, print-ready variations of product labels quickly and accurately.

When I first started working with Bower, they had an idea, but not much more. Through a series of collaborative sessions I helped them iron out their proposition and the service design around it, and turn the brand, the service and their financial modelling into a compelling story for investors.

In November - after only about 3 weeks of pitching - they signed a deal with Founders Factory.
